You have a problem and now your ABS no longer works ( there is still a debate whether this is a good or bad thing ! ).

Most likely a wheel sensor malfunction.

is there a way to rectify this as i once owned a scorpio for my sins and this had an abs fault that was down to rust under the sensors a bit of emery paper later job done do you think this would work

Quite probably, it just means the sensor is not sensing properly, due to rust, accumulation of mcuk or possibly faulty sensor.

Give it a try it wont hurt, ABS kills more people than it saves, its not a bad thing it being missing !

cheers for that will take a look at the weekend i know what you mean about abs but i wouldnt be without it on me truck dont suppose you know anything about the 2.8 gal do you

Sadly I know little about the 2.8 engine, although there are plenty on this site who do.

The rest of the Galaxy is mostly identical all the others.

Post your other problems and I am sure that there is plenty of experienced owners out there to help you.

Like I said give me a braking system that I can control.

If I push the brake pedal I expect the brakes to be applied in response to how hard I press.

Don't like the thought of a computer thinking about it for me.

It would probably help others to reply/help if you gave some details about your car  put them in your signature - click on the red link in my sig if you need any pointers

I think you need to analyse the papers more carefully - the US one doesn't have a test date whereas the UK one does. The UK testing was completed in 1999 - quite a long while ago.

The US testing concluded that there may be issues with the type of vehilce (unproven) but that it was more likley a combination of unfamilar drivers and the age and type of the software .

Not necessarily that ABS was a bad thing.

It looks superficially that it's the old story of " I have ABS I can drive faster with less attention because the system will save me" syndrome that seatbelts first brought about.

I like it.

I believe what we are talking about is called Risk Compensation Theory. The idea is that we "need" a certain amount of risk in our lives (from our Hunter ancestors?) and for every risk taken away we subconsciously create a new one, i.e I've got ABS so I'll brake harder and later. Seeing that a lot people don't even know they have ABS I'm not sure about this. 20 odd years ago when seatbelt wearing was made compulsary the widely predicted huge drop in road fatalities never occured, because a decrease in driver/passenger fatalities was largely offset by an increase in pedestian and cylist fatalities. What supposedly happened was that deprived of the opportunity to kill ourselves we went out to kill others. Hmmmmmmm....................
